| 10 | 11 | | entry; people with busy or unpredictable schedules can choose the |

| 11 | 12 | | hours when they want to accept tasks, and the flexibility allows |

| 12 | 13 | | some to participate in the workforce who would not be able to accept |

| 13 | 14 | | traditional employment; in addition, freelance work can help |

| 14 | 15 | | households quickly overcome a financial emergency without going |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | into debt or taking on a long-term commitment; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Acting as their own bosses, gig workers enhance |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In 2018, the gig economy accounted for $1.3 trillion |

| 28 | 29 | | in national economic activity; the phenomenon is sure to gain even |

| 29 | 30 | | more momentum, and freelance workers may indeed take pride in their |

| 30 | 31 | | contributions to this flourishing sector; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby honor workers in the gig economy and extend to |

| 33 | 34 | | them sincere best wishes for continued success. |
