45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Residents of Tarrant County are gathering in Austin
67 to celebrate Tarrant County Days at the State Capitol on March 6 and
78 7, 2019; and
89 WHEREAS, Tarrant County was created in 1849 as one of the 26
910 counties formed from the Peters Colony; it is named for General
1011 Edward H. Tarrant of the Republic of Texas Militia, and its county
1112 seat is Fort Worth; and
1213 WHEREAS, What began as a frontier community has evolved into
1314 a modern center for business, education, and world-class culture;
1415 recent census estimates indicate that the population of Tarrant
1516 County has surpassed two million, and it continues to rank as the
1617 third most populous county in Texas; and
1718 WHEREAS, With 41 incorporated municipalities, Tarrant County
1819 has many entertainment and tourist attractions that draw visitors
1920 from around the world; families enjoy Six Flags Over Texas, the Fort
2021 Worth Zoo, and AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys, as well as
2122 exemplary museums, including the Kimbell Art Museum and the Amon G.
2223 Carter Museum, which showcase outstanding collections of classic
2324 and American art; other area attractions include historic downtown
2425 Grapevine, the shops at Grapevine Mills, Southlake Town Square,
2526 Sundance Square, and the Fort Worth Stockyards; and
2627 WHEREAS, Tarrant County is also home to many excellent
2728 institutions of higher education, which provide opportunities for a
2829 variety of students and produce a highly educated workforce; these
2930 institutions include The University of Texas at Arlington, the
3031 University of North Texas, the University of North Texas Health
3132 Science Center at Fort Worth, Texas A&M University School of Law,
3233 Dallas Baptist University, Southwestern Baptist Theological
3334 Seminary, Texas Christian University, Tarrant County College, the
3435 College of Saint Thomas More, Arlington Baptist College, Trinity
3536 Valley Baptist Seminary and College, Tarleton State
3637 University-Fort Worth, and Texas Wesleyan University; and
3738 WHEREAS, The county's diverse and prosperous business
3839 community ranges from cattle ranching to small businesses to
3940 multinational corporations and includes leaders in the defense,
4041 aerospace, and transportation industries; Dallas/Fort Worth
4142 International Airport, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort
4243 Worth, and the Alliance Airport all contribute to the regional and
4344 state economy; and
4445 WHEREAS, The visiting Tarrant County delegation of civic,
4546 academic, and business leaders is headed by County Judge B. Glen
4647 Whitley and County Commissioners Roy C. Brooks, Devan Allen, Gary
4748 Fickes, and J. D. Johnson; and
4849 WHEREAS, The people of Tarrant County have worked hard to
4950 build and sustain their vibrant community, and they can be justly
5051 proud of their rich history, their many achievements, and their
5152 enduring public spirit; now, therefore, be it
5253 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
5354 Legislature hereby recognize March 6 and 7, 2019, as Tarrant County
5455 Days at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation
5556 sincere best wishes for an informative and enjoyable stay in
5657 Austin.
