45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The girls' cross-country team of Coppell High School
67 proved itself the finest 6A squad in Texas by winning the 2018
78 University Interscholastic League state championship; and
89 WHEREAS, After bringing home the Region 2 title in October,
910 the Cowgirls went on to compete against the other top high school
1011 contenders at the state meet, held at Old Settlers Park in Round
1112 Rock on November 3; and
1213 WHEREAS, Under the guidance of head coach Nick Benton, the
1314 Coppell runners claimed the first cross-country state crown in the
1415 school's history by tallying a total of 79 points; the contingent
1516 was led by Chloe Hassman, whose time of 18 minutes, 10.10 seconds,
1617 earned her 26th place overall; she was followed in 31st place by
1718 Rowan Hassman at 18:16.10; the other athletes contributing to the
1819 team's victory were Shelby Spoor, who clocked in at 18:17.60,
1920 Natalie Fleming, who finished in 18:22.70, Maddie Hulcy, who
2021 crossed the line in 18:25.30, Rebecca Centeno, who recorded a time
2122 of 19:55.60, and Morgan Colon, who completed the course in
2223 20:37.70; and
2324 WHEREAS, Through their triumphant performance in the state's
2425 premier showcase for high school cross-country runners, these
2526 dedicated athletes ably represented their school and community, and
2627 they may indeed reflect with pride on this notable accomplishment;
2728 now, therefore, be it
2829 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
2930 Legislature hereby congratulate the Coppell High School girls'
3031 cross-country team on winning the 2018 UIL 6A state championship
3132 and extend to the team's runners, coaches, and staff sincere best
3233 wishes for continued success; and, be it further
3334 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3435 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3536 House of Representatives.
