| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Charles Leroy Moody is concluding his tenure as the |

| 6 | 7 | | sheriff of San Patricio County on March 31, 2019, after more than |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | half a century in law enforcement; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A 1958 graduate of Taft High School, Leroy Moody |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | began working as a dispatcher for the City of Sinton and San |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Patricio County following his honorable discharge from the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | U. S. Army in 1965; though he briefly left to take a position as |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | foreman of Mayo Farms in Taft, he returned to San Patricio County as |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | a dispatcher in March 1966, and he went on to become a deputy |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | sheriff and process server; in 1974, he was promoted to chief |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | deputy, a position he held until his election as sheriff in 1988, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | and he was subsequently reelected seven times; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Highly respected by his peers, Sheriff Moody held |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | the office of president for the Sheriffs' Association of Texas, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | he has been active in the Coastal Bend Peace Officers Association; |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | his service to the community has included committee assignments |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | with the Coastal Bend Council of Governments and membership in the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Sinton Lions Club and Sinton Masonic Lodge No. 1012; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of his many contributions, Sheriff |

| 24 | 25 | | Moody received the Tom Tellepsen Award from the Sheriffs' |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Association of Texas and the Humanitarian of the Year award from the |

| 26 | 27 | | Sinton Chamber of Commerce; and |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Leroy Moody's dedication, professionalism, |

| 28 | 29 | | and commitment to protecting and serving the public have greatly |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | benefited the residents of San Patricio County, and he may indeed |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | reflect with pride on his exceptional record of achievement; now, |

| 31 | 32 | | therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Charles Leroy Moody on his |

| 34 | 35 | | retirement as the sheriff of San Patricio County and extend to him |

| 35 | 36 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
