45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Juan Antonio González Moreno, chair and CEO of
67 Gruma, has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to strengthening
78 the relationship between Texas and Mexico; and
89 WHEREAS, One of Mexico's premier companies, Gruma has
910 operated in the United States for more than four decades, and its
1011 U.S. subsidiary, Mission Foods, has been headquartered in the
1112 Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex since 1998; the company has invested
1213 more than $100 million in Texas in recent years, and its plants in
1314 Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio employ more than 1,000 Texans; and
1415 WHEREAS, In 2016, Gruma-Mission Foods made a $4 million
1516 commitment to enable the establishment of the Mission Foods
1617 Texas-Mexico Center at Southern Methodist University, and
1718 Mr. González Moreno serves as chair of its executive advisory
1819 board; the center furthers dialogue related to the economic,
1920 political, and social ties between Mexico, Texas, and the United
2021 States as a whole and promotes scholarly research on border issues,
2122 energy, human capital and education, migration, and trade and
2223 investment; moreover, its programs encourage the development of
2324 sound public policy and greater cross-border integration and
2425 cross-sector collaboration among academia, government, nonprofit
2526 organizations, and business; and
2627 WHEREAS, Mr. González Moreno has also provided leadership in
2728 the development of social programs that support Hispanic
2829 communities in the United States; in 2017, he received the Good
2930 Neighbor Award from the United States Chamber of Commerce in
3031 recognition of his outstanding endeavors; and
3132 WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Mission Foods Texas-Mexico
3233 Center has advanced the study of a vital cross-border relationship,
3334 and through his dedication to invigorating that relationship, Juan
3435 González Moreno has helped build a bridge to a brighter future for
3536 all; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby honor Juan Antonio González Moreno for his
3839 contributions to the economic partnership between Texas and Mexico
3940 and commend him for his work in behalf of the Mission Foods
4041 Texas-Mexico Center at Southern Methodist University; and, be it
4142 further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for Mr. González Moreno as an expression of high regard by
4445 the Texas House of Representatives.
