| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Gill Roofing Company is celebrating 74 years of |

| 6 | 7 | | service to the people of Corpus Christi in 2019, and this occasion |

| 7 | 8 | | offers a welcome opportunity to recognize the history and |

| 8 | 9 | | accomplishments of this venerable local enterprise; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, After helping to build the Corpus Christi Naval Air |

| 10 | 11 | | Station during World War II, Richard Gill established his own |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | roofing company in January 1945; he built a shop and a house on Up |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | River Road, and he added a sheet metal shop in the aftermath of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Hurricane Celia, which struck the Gulf Coast in 1970; Darlene Lee |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | joined the company in 1973 and became the manager and partial owner |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | in 1986; she has owned and operated the company since 2001; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Gill Roofing has benefited |

| 17 | 18 | | from the hard work and dedication of its employees, many of whom |

| 18 | 19 | | have been with the business for many years; the company is a member |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, the Better |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Business Bureau, and the National Association of Women in |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Construction, and it is a voluntary participant in the RCAT |

| 22 | 23 | | Licensed Roofing Contractor Program; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Independent businesses contribute greatly to the |

| 24 | 25 | | economy of their communities, and it is fitting that Gill Roofing be |

| 25 | 26 | | recognized for its many years of valued service; now, therefore, be |
