| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Kleberg County are gathering in |

| 6 | 7 | | Austin on April 10, 2019, to celebrate Kleberg County Day at the |

| 7 | 8 | | State Capitol; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Situated both on the broad grasslands of the Gulf |

| 9 | 10 | | Coast and on Padre Island, the area that was to become Kleberg |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | County was first inhabited by the Karankawa and Coahuiltecan |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | peoples; Spanish settlements were established along the lower Rio |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Grande in the 18th century, and after a period of Mexican rule, the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | land became part of Nueces County when Texas secured its |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | independence; in 1853, Richard King established the vast King |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Ranch, a large tract of which was used to form the city of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Kingsville in 1904; the new community grew quickly as a railway hub |

| 24 | 25 | | 825,000 acres, the legendary King Ranch is still vital to the |

| 25 | 26 | | prosperity of the county, and the enterprise has earned fame for the |

| 26 | 27 | | region through its development of the Santa Gertrudis breed of |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | cattle, its contributions to quarter horse and thoroughbred |

| 28 | 29 | | breeding, and its accomplishments in a variety of other |
|---|

|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The largest city in Kleberg County, Kingsville is |

| 31 | 32 | | home to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, which includes the Frank |

| 32 | 33 | | H. Dotterweich College of Engineering, the Dick and Mary Lewis |

| 33 | 34 | | Kleberg College of Agriculture, the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife |

| 34 | 35 | | Research Institute, and the Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy; |

| 35 | 36 | | moreover, Naval Air Station Kingsville is the leading undergraduate |

| 36 | 37 | | pilot training facility in the United States, preparing U.S. Navy |

| 43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 44 | 45 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 10, 2019, as Kleberg County Day |
