| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Bee County are gathering at the |

| 6 | 7 | | State Capitol to celebrate Bee County Day on March 13, 2019; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, While artifacts indicate that the region was |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | originally inhabited 6,000 to 10,000 years ago, the first permanent |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | European settlers arrived in the early 19th century, and 11 area |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | landowners were among the signers of the Texas Declaration of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Independence; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Bee County was officially organized on January 25, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | 1858, and named for Barnard E. Bee Sr., a South Carolina attorney, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | soldier, and statesman who joined the Army of the Republic of Texas |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and later served as secretary of war under Sam Houston; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Located in the South Texas Plains vegetation region, |

| 17 | 18 | | the county covers 866 square miles that slope gently toward the Gulf |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Coast, and with open expanses of grasslands, its economy is |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | dominated by farming, ranching, and agribusiness, along with oil |

| 20 | 21 | | and gas operations; Beeville is the county seat, and other towns in |

| 21 | 22 | | the county include Skidmore, Blue Berry Hill, Pettus, Tuleta, |

| 22 | 23 | | Tynan, Pawnee, Normanna, and Mineral; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Bee County citizens can take pride in an array of |

| 24 | 25 | | attractions for residents and visitors to explore; Beeville has |

| 25 | 26 | | successfully revitalized its downtown district and has been named a |

| 26 | 27 | | Texas Main Street City by the Texas Historical Commission; Coastal |

| 27 | 28 | | Bend College-Beeville offers occupational as well as academic |

| 28 | 29 | | classes for its students, and it has the oldest academic |

| 29 | 30 | | educational glassblowing facility in the state; the Beeville Art |

| 30 | 31 | | Museum, which is funded by the Joe Barnhart Foundation, is housed in |

| 31 | 32 | | the beautiful and historic Esther Barnhart House; in addition, |

| 32 | 33 | | visitors come from all across Texas to celebrate the state's rich |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 13, 2019, as Bee County Day at |
