| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Members of Houston area chapters of Omega Psi Phi |

| 6 | 7 | | Fraternity, Inc., are visiting the State Capitol on March 25, 2019, |

| 7 | 8 | | and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor the |

| 8 | 9 | | organization for its record of leadership and service; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity was established by three |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | students on the campus of Howard University in 1911; today, the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | fraternity encompasses more than 700 undergraduate, graduate, and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | alumni chapters across the United States and around the world, all |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | of which are committed to the mission of building a strong and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | effective force of men who strive for academic excellence and who |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | wish to use their resources for the betterment of society; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The fraternity's members work toward the greater |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | good by promoting education, encouraging voter registration, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | fighting illiteracy, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | participating in numerous other mentoring and fund-raising |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | activities; since 1945, Omega Psi Phi has administered a National |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Social Action Program to help address the needs of African |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Americans in the areas of health, housing, civil rights, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | education; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The Ninth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity was |

| 25 | 26 | | ratified in 1923, expanding the fraternity in the areas of Texas, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and California; the Houston Area |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Coalition of Chapters continues to carry on the traditions of Omega |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Psi Phi by mobilizing local chapter members to be agents of positive |

| 29 | 30 | | change in their community; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity have |

| 31 | 32 | | distinguished themselves through their countless good works, and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | they are to be commended for their dedication to the principles that |

| 33 | 34 | | have guided this outstanding organization for more than a century; |
|---|
