| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The passing of Dr. Baker Pattillo of Nacogdoches on |

| 6 | 7 | | December 29, 2018, at the age of 75, brought great sorrow to his |

| 7 | 8 | | family and friends, as well as to the campus community of Stephen |

| 8 | 9 | | F. Austin State University, which he served with great distinction |

| 9 | 10 | | for more than five decades; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Born in Camden on June 22, 1943, Baker Pattillo was |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the son of the Reverend Leroy Pattillo and Mauree Pattillo; he moved |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | with his family to Arp in 1956 and lettered as a member of the Tigers |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | football team at Arp High School, where his classmates voted him |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | "most likely to succeed"; he subsequently put himself through |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | college, and after studying first at Tyler Junior College, he |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | earned his bachelor's degree in 1965 and his master's degree in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | guidance and counseling in 1966 from SFA; he later completed a |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Ph.D. in educational administration at Texas A&M University; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Pattillo was hired as assistant director of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | placement and financial aid at SFA in 1966; he was promoted to dean |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | of student services in 1972 and to vice president for student |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | affairs in 1979; after being appointed interim president in July |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | 2006, he assumed the office of president in January 2007; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his 11-year tenure as president, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Dr. Pattillo coordinated campus projects that totaled more than |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | $425 million, including a student recreation center, a nursing |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | building, and three residential buildings; moreover, he took |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | well-deserved pride in securing $150 million in funding for four |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | additional facilities during his last day of work; under his |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | leadership, the university exceeded 13,000 in enrollment, |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | surpassing its previous record, and Dr. Pattillo enjoyed a strong |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | rapport with students, as well as with faculty, staff, regents, and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | state and national leaders; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Pattillo shared 52 years of marriage with his |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | wife, Janice Pattillo, whom he wed on December 17, 1966, and they |

| 36 | 37 | | were blessed with a daughter, Paige, a grandson, Jackson, and a |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | son-in-law, Todd; and |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Through his vision and leadership, Dr. Baker |

| 39 | 40 | | Pattillo contributed immeasurably to advancing the mission of |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | Stephen F. Austin State University, and he leaves behind a legacy |

| 41 | 42 | | that will continue to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be |
