| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Bags of Love, a nonprofit organization based in |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The organization was founded by Hallie Hatthorn, a |

| 9 | 10 | | former foster child, to provide a replacement for the trash bags |

| 10 | 11 | | that children are typically given to gather their belongings when |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | being relocated to a foster home; through the help of donations and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | volunteers, Bags of Love works to supply duffel bags filled with |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | toiletries, toys, blankets, and other items to foster children who |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | may otherwise have very little to call their own; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Bags of Love is a community partner of the Texas |

| 16 | 17 | | Department of Family and Protective Services, which often relies on |

| 17 | 18 | | donations from various charitable groups and initiatives to ensure |

| 18 | 19 | | the well-being of young victims of abuse and neglect to the fullest |

| 19 | 20 | | extent possible; since 2016, Bags of Love has delivered more than |

| 20 | 21 | | 3,000 of its bags to child protective agencies across Texas and |

| 21 | 22 | | other states; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, A simple duffel bag containing care items can be a |

| 23 | 24 | | bright spot for children coping with feelings of loss, insecurity, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and uncertainty, and Bags of Love is to be commended for its efforts |

| 25 | 26 | | to provide a measure of comfort to young people who are in great |

| 26 | 27 | | need of our advocacy; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby express support for Bags of Love and its mission |

| 29 | 30 | | to make transitions easier for children in the care of the Texas |
