| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Jeff Wheatcraft of the Alamo Heights Independent |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1969, the Texas Teacher of the Year |

| 9 | 10 | | Program recognizes excellence in classroom education and provides a |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | forum to showcase the outstanding educators whose efforts have |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | inspired their students, their colleagues, and the communities they |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | serve; the Teacher of the Year award is the highest honor that can |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | be bestowed upon an educator in the Lone Star State; Jeff Wheatcraft |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | received the accolade after being selected as the 2019 Texas |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Secondary Teacher of the Year; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Wheatcraft currently teaches eighth-grade |

| 17 | 18 | | science at Alamo Heights Junior School, and he has dedicated the |

| 18 | 19 | | past four years to creating and leading the school's STEM program; |

| 19 | 20 | | by inviting all students to join and challenging them to tackle |

| 20 | 21 | | real-world problems, he has crafted a curriculum that is inclusive, |

| 21 | 22 | | stimulating, and rewarding; under his guidance, the program has |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | grown beyond the confines of the classroom and has had a positive |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | influence on the students involved as well as the overall school |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | culture; he also works with the regional Education Service Center |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and volunteers his time as a mentor to other teachers; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Alamo Heights ISD in 2012, |

| 27 | 28 | | Mr. Wheatcraft taught at Kirby Middle School in the Judson |

| 28 | 29 | | Independent School District for six years; over the course of his |

| 29 | 30 | | career, he has received a number of honors, including Alamo Heights |

| 30 | 31 | | ISD Teacher of the Year, Region 20 Secondary Teacher of the Year, |

| 31 | 32 | | Principle Auto's Car-4-All-Seasons Teacher of the Year, and the |

| 32 | 33 | | 2018 Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching; furthermore, he has |

| 33 | 34 | | twice been nominated for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in |

| 34 | 35 | | Mathematics and Science Teaching; and |

| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Jeff Wheatcraft exemplifies the passion, |

| 36 | 37 | | determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our |

| 37 | 38 | | best teachers, and he has set a standard of excellence to which all |

| 38 | 39 | | in his profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it |

| 39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Jeff Wheatcraft on his selection as |

| 41 | 42 | | the 2019 Texas Teacher of the Year and extend to him sincere best |
