45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The members of Grace Cathedral Church in Houston are
67 joining together on February 22, 2019, to honor the Reverend
78 Charles H. Taylor Sr. for three decades of dedicated service to
89 that congregation; and
910 WHEREAS, A graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School, Reverend
1011 Taylor continued his education at the College of Biblical Studies,
1112 Texas Southern University, and Houston Baptist University; he was
1213 ordained as a deacon in 1973 and as a minister four years later; and
1314 WHEREAS, After serving as an assistant pastor at St. Matthew
1415 Baptist Church for 10 years, Reverend Taylor assumed the pulpit at
1516 Grace Cathedral in 1989; during his tenure, he has overseen the
1617 construction of a new sanctuary and the establishment of the
1718 nonprofit G. C. Community Development Corporation, which built the
1819 Commons of Grace Senior Apartment Homes next to the church; he also
1920 led the church's efforts to provide resources to those affected by
2021 Hurricane Harvey; and
2122 WHEREAS, Reverend Taylor has further contributed to his
2223 community as president of Young Men for Christ and as a member of
2324 the North Forest Independent School District Board of Trustees and
2425 the Northeast Harris County Ministerial Alliance; and
2526 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support
2627 of his wife, Belinda Goree Taylor; the couple count among their
2728 blessings a fine family that includes their five children,
2829 Shalanda, Charles, ReQuita, Sharlette, and Brandon; and
2930 WHEREAS, Reverend Taylor has led Grace Cathedral Church with
3031 conviction and compassion, and he has earned the lasting respect
3132 and admiration of his congregants as well as members of the greater
3233 community; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby commend the Reverend Charles H. Taylor Sr. for
3536 his outstanding 30-year tenure with Grace Cathedral Church in
3637 Houston and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
3738 with his important work; and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for Reverend Taylor as an expression of high regard by the
4041 Texas House of Representatives.
