| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The members of Grace Cathedral Church in Houston are |

| 6 | 7 | | joining together on February 22, 2019, to honor the Reverend |

| 7 | 8 | | Charles H. Taylor Sr. for three decades of dedicated service to |

| 8 | 9 | | that congregation; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Phillis Wheatley High School, Reverend |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Taylor continued his education at the College of Biblical Studies, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Texas Southern University, and Houston Baptist University; he was |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | ordained as a deacon in 1973 and as a minister four years later; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, After serving as an assistant pastor at St. Matthew |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Baptist Church for 10 years, Reverend Taylor assumed the pulpit at |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Grace Cathedral in 1989; during his tenure, he has overseen the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | construction of a new sanctuary and the establishment of the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | nonprofit G. C. Community Development Corporation, which built the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Commons of Grace Senior Apartment Homes next to the church; he also |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | led the church's efforts to provide resources to those affected by |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Hurricane Harvey; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Taylor has further contributed to his |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | community as president of Young Men for Christ and as a member of |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the North Forest Independent School District Board of Trustees and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the Northeast Harris County Ministerial Alliance; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | of his wife, Belinda Goree Taylor; the couple count among their |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | blessings a fine family that includes their five children, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Shalanda, Charles, ReQuita, Sharlette, and Brandon; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Reverend Taylor has led Grace Cathedral Church with |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | conviction and compassion, and he has earned the lasting respect |

| 31 | 32 | | and admiration of his congregants as well as members of the greater |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | community; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend the Reverend Charles H. Taylor Sr. for |

| 35 | 36 | | his outstanding 30-year tenure with Grace Cathedral Church in |

| 36 | 37 | | Houston and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success |
