45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The girls' basketball team from Panhandle High
67 School distinguished itself by advancing to the 2A semifinals in
78 the 2019 University Interscholastic League Girls' Basketball State
89 Championships; and
910 WHEREAS, After compiling an outstanding record of 27 wins and
1011 just 4 losses during the regular season, the Pantherettes embarked
1112 on a thrilling postseason run in which they defeated the teams from
1213 Boys Ranch, Vega, Stratford, and Christoval High Schools in the
1314 first four rounds of play; squaring off against district rival
1415 Wellington in the Region 1 championship game, Panhandle recorded a
1516 decisive 53-35 victory and secured a spot in the state tournament
1617 for the third time in four years; and
1718 WHEREAS, The Pantherettes faced defending state champion
1819 Martin's Mill High School in their semifinal contest at the
1920 Alamodome in San Antonio on March 1; the Panhandle players gave
2021 their all in a tough battle that featured two ties, but their
2122 valiant rally in the second half ultimately fell short, and their
2223 season come to an end in a 49-47 loss; and
2324 WHEREAS, Under the guidance of head coach Rob Schmucker and
2425 assistant coaches Sheena Schmucker and Mikel Tucker, the
2526 Pantherettes were led by seniors Masyn Reining, Lainey Choate, and
2627 Bree Baker, who took part in three state tournaments during their
2728 high school careers and helped Panhandle with the title in 2017; the
2829 team also received valuable contributions from the other members of
2930 the roster: Kinley Graham, Bailey Walterscheid, Ella Satterwhite,
3031 Mason Jones, Mackie Land, Halle Ford, Emmery Sides, Graci Veazey,
3132 and Keeley Harding; and
3233 WHEREAS, Demonstrating a combination of exceptional talent
3334 and fierce determination, the Panhandle Pantherettes turned in an
3435 unforgettable performance during the 2018-2019 season, and their
3536 success is a source of great pride to their many supporters in the
3637 local community; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby congratulate the Panhandle High School girls'
3940 basketball team on advancing to the semifinals of the 2019 UIL state
4041 tournament and commend the team's players, coaches, and staff on a
4142 job well done; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4445 House of Representatives.
