| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The historic Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches received |

| 6 | 7 | | a 2019 Honor Award from Preservation Texas at a ceremony in Austin |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Selected by a jury of preservationists, the Honor |

| 9 | 10 | | Awards recognize successful efforts to save and preserve |

| 10 | 11 | | irreplaceable and historic buildings and places in the Lone Star |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | State; the awards also honor individuals who contribute to the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | preservation of the state's heritage; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Situated in one of the oldest and most historic |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | towns in Texas, the Fredonia Hotel was the brainchild of Jack |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | McKinney, who suggested to the local chamber of commerce the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | construction of a community-owned hotel to provide first-class |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | accommodations for businesspeople and other travelers; the name |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | "Fredonia" was proposed by four-year-old Susan McKinney; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Fredonia was built in 1955, centered around an |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | ancient catalpa tree that once stood in its atrium; over the years, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | the hotel has hosted such famous guests as Elvis Presley, Colonel |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Sanders, Farrah Fawcett, and Amy Schumer, and today, it offers |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | travelers more than 100 rooms in a variety of styles, as well as the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | popular Nine Flags Bar, the elegant Republic Steakhouse, and 1st |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | City Café, which features farm-to-table southern cuisine; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, For nearly six and a half decades, the Fredonia |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Hotel has provided visitors to Nacogdoches with state-of-the-art |

| 28 | 29 | | accommodations while also representing the rich heritage of its |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | community, and its management and staff may indeed take pride in |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | this recognition of its special place in the history of the Lone |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Fredonia Hotel on its receipt |

| 34 | 35 | | of a 2019 Honor Award from Preservation Texas and extend to all |

| 35 | 36 | | those associated with the hotel sincere best wishes for continued |
