| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mary Louise Smith of Pflugerville is celebrating her |

| 6 | 7 | | retirement from Texas Health and Human Services on March 28, 2019, |

| 7 | 8 | | providing a fitting opportunity to reflect on the contributions of |

| 8 | 9 | | this esteemed health care professional; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Ms. Smith began her career with |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | the state as a registered psychiatric nurse at Austin State |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Hospital, where she was well regarded for her compassion and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | communication skills as she cared for chronically mentally ill and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | hearing impaired patients; she later moved to the Regulatory |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Division of the Texas Department of State Health Services to work as |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | a nurse consultant in health facility licensing; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Smith went on to serve as a nurse surveyor with |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Texas Health and Human Services, and in that role, she has conducted |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | compliance surveys and complaint investigations in health care |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | facilities statewide; in the course of her tenure, her wealth of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | knowledge and exceptional leadership have garnered her the respect |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | and admiration of her colleagues; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mary Louise Smith's dedication, professionalism, |

| 23 | 24 | | and commitment to excellence have greatly benefited her fellow |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Texans, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent |

| 25 | 26 | | as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, |
