| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Father David Garcia has distinguished himself in his |

| 6 | 7 | | role as the archdiocesan director of the Old Spanish Missions in San |

| 7 | 8 | | Antonio, and he is truly deserving of special recognition; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established near the San Antonio River three |

| 9 | 10 | | centuries ago, Missions Concepción, San José, San Juan, and Espada |

| 10 | 11 | | now compose the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park; |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | under Father Garcia's stewardship, extensive restoration work has |

| 12 | 13 | | been completed on these historic structures, helping to preserve |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | them for generations to come; the project has garnered many |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | accolades, including the Governor's Award for Historic |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Preservation in 2015, and the park, along with the Alamo, was named |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Texas' first UNESCO World Heritage Site that same year; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Father David, as he is known to countless people in |

| 18 | 19 | | San Antonio, was ordained to the priesthood in 1975 and has served |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | with the Archdiocese of San Antonio for more than 40 years; |

| 20 | 21 | | beginning his ministry at Immaculate Conception Church, he went on |

| 21 | 22 | | to oversee a major restoration of the historic San Fernando |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Cathedral during his tenure there as rector; in addition to his work |

| 23 | 24 | | as the archdiocesan director of the historic missions, he is the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | pastoral administrator at Mission Concepción; he has also served as |

| 25 | 26 | | the senior advisor for clergy outreach for Catholic Relief Services |

| 26 | 27 | | and has taken on numerous other responsibilities in his church and |

| 27 | 28 | | in the local community; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedicated efforts, Father David Garcia |

| 29 | 30 | | has contributed immeasurably to preserving San Antonio's four |

| 30 | 31 | | historic missions, helping to ensure that these cultural landmarks |

| 31 | 32 | | will continue to showcase the rich heritage of San Antonio and the |

| 32 | 33 | | State of Texas; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 86th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby honor Father David Garcia for his outstanding |
