66 AN ACT
77 relating to the waiver of certain driver responsibility program
88 surcharges on proof of commitment to enlist in the armed forces.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 708, Transportation Code,
1111 is amended by adding Section 708.1571 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 708.1571. UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES ENLISTMENT
1313 COMMITMENT WAIVER. (a) The department shall waive all surcharges
1414 assessed under this chapter for a person who commits to enlist in
1515 the United States armed forces. Only unpaid surcharges assessed on
1616 or before the date a person commits to enlist may be waived.
1717 (b) The department shall require a person requesting a
1818 waiver under this section to provide proof of the person's
1919 commitment to enlist in the United States armed forces. The
2020 department shall adopt rules relating to the proof of entitlement
2121 to this waiver.
2222 SECTION 2. Section 708.1571, Transportation Code, as added
2323 by this Act, applies to a surcharge pending on the effective date of
2424 this Act regardless of when the surcharge was assessed.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
