95 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
106 AN ACT
117 relating to the location of countywide polling places within a
128 county.
139 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1410 SECTION 1. Section 43.007(m), Election Code, is amended to
1511 read as follows:
1612 (m) In adopting a methodology under Subsection (f), the
1713 county must ensure that:
1814 (1) each county commissioners precinct contains at
1915 least one countywide polling place and the percentage of the total
2016 number of countywide polling places located in each commissioners
2117 precinct must be as equal as mathematically possible to the
2218 percentage of registered voters of the county whose registrations
2319 are effective on the date of the election residing in each
2420 commissioners precinct; and
2521 (2) in a county with a population of 400,000 or more,
2622 the percentage of the total number of countywide polling places
2723 located in each state representative district in the county
2824 containing territory in which the election is held must be as equal
2925 as mathematically possible to the percentage of registered voters
3026 of the county whose registrations are effective on the date of the
3127 election residing in each state representative district [the total
3228 number of permanent branch and temporary branch polling places open
3329 for voting in a county commissioners precinct does not exceed more
3430 than twice the number of permanent branch and temporary branch
3531 polling places in another county commissioners precinct].
3632 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
