49 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
510 AN ACT
611 relating to compliance with federal coding guidelines for certain
712 divisions and offices within the Health and Human Services
813 Commission.
914 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1015 SECTION 1. Section 531.1023, Government Code, is amended to
1116 read as follows:
1217 Sec. 531.1023. COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL CODING GUIDELINES.
1318 (a) The commission's office of inspector general, including
1419 office staff and any third party with which the office contracts to
1520 perform coding services, and the commission's medical and
1621 utilization review appeals unit shall comply with federal coding
1722 guidelines, including guidelines for diagnosis-related group (DRG)
1823 validation and related audits.
1924 (b) In this section, "federal coding guidelines" means the
2025 code sets and guidelines adopted by the United States Department of
2126 Health and Human Services in accordance with the Health Insurance
2227 Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (42 U.S.C. Section 1320d
2328 et seq.).
2429 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
