9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 33.036, Government Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c) to read as | |
12 | 12 | follows: | |
13 | 13 | (a) To protect the public interest, the commission may | |
14 | 14 | disclose information relating to an investigation or proceeding | |
15 | 15 | under this chapter to: | |
16 | 16 | (1) a law enforcement agency; | |
17 | 17 | (2) a public official who is authorized or required by | |
18 | 18 | law to appoint a person to serve as a judge; | |
19 | 19 | (3) the supreme court; [or] | |
20 | 20 | (4) an entity that provides commission-ordered | |
21 | 21 | education to judges; or | |
22 | 22 | (5) the State Bar of Texas. | |
23 | 23 | (c) The State Bar of Texas may use information disclosed to | |
24 | 24 | the state bar under this section only to investigate and dispose of | |
25 | 25 | a complaint as provided by Subchapter E, Chapter 81. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
27 | 27 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
28 | 28 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
29 | 29 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
30 | 30 | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
