46 AN ACT
57 relating to eligibility of certain children for free
68 prekindergarten programs in public schools.
79 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
810 SECTION 1. Section 29.153, Education Code, is amended by
911 adding Subsection (g) to read as follows:
1012 (g) A child who is eligible for enrollment in a
1113 prekindergarten class under Subsection (b) at the age of three and
1214 enrolls in a prekindergarten class at the age of three remains
1315 eligible for enrollment in a prekindergarten class for the
1416 following school year.
1517 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
1618 school year.
1719 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1820 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
1921 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2022 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2123 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
