| 7 | 7 | | relating to a study by the Texas Department of Transportation of the |

| 8 | 8 | | feasibility of certain improvements to Interstate Highway 27. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. (a) In this Act: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (1) "Improvement" has the meaning assigned by Section |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 221.001, Transportation Code. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (2) "Port of entry" has the meaning assigned by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Section 621.001, Transportation Code. |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b) The Texas Department of Transportation shall conduct a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | study of the feasibility of and the costs and logistical matters |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | associated with improvements that would extend Interstate Highway |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 27: |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | (1) from its southern terminus to Interstate Highway |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 20; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (2) from Interstate Highway 20 to Interstate Highway |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | 10; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (3) from Interstate Highway 10 to the port of entry |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | located in Laredo. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (c) Not later than January 1, 2021, the department shall |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | submit a report on the results of the study to the governor, the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and the presiding officer of each standing committee of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | legislature with jurisdiction over transportation matters. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (d) This Act expires August 31, 2021. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
