| 6 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 7 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |

| 8 | 10 | | amended by adding Section 662.071 to read as follows: |

| 9 | 11 | | Sec. 662.071. MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY. (a) May 8 |
|---|
| 10 | 12 | | is Military Spouse Appreciation Day to recognize the role of the |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | wives and husbands of the brave individuals who serve in the United |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | States armed forces or state military forces. This day |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | commemorates: |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | (1) the sacrifices military spouses make during the |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | weeks, months, and years a loved one is away from home protecting |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | our freedom; and |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | (2) the vital support military spouses provide to |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | veterans returning home from military service. |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | (b) Military Spouse Appreciation Day shall be regularly |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | observed by appropriate programs and activities coordinated by the |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | Texas Veterans Commission. |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 23 | 25 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 24 | 26 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 25 | 27 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 26 | 28 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
