57 relating to designating May 8 as Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
68 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
79 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
810 amended by adding Section 662.071 to read as follows:
911 Sec. 662.071. MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY. (a) May 8
1012 is Military Spouse Appreciation Day to recognize the role of the
1113 wives and husbands of the brave individuals who serve in the United
1214 States armed forces or state military forces. This day
1315 commemorates:
1416 (1) the sacrifices military spouses make during the
1517 weeks, months, and years a loved one is away from home protecting
1618 our freedom; and
1719 (2) the vital support military spouses provide to
1820 veterans returning home from military service.
1921 (b) Military Spouse Appreciation Day shall be regularly
2022 observed by appropriate programs and activities coordinated by the
2123 Texas Veterans Commission.
2224 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2325 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2426 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2527 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2628 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
