9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 551.301, Transportation Code, is amended | |
11 | 11 | to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 551.301. DEFINITION. In this subchapter, | |
13 | 13 | "neighborhood electric vehicle" means an electric [a] vehicle that | |
14 | 14 | can attain a maximum speed of 35 miles per hour on a paved level | |
15 | 15 | surface and otherwise complies with: | |
16 | 16 | (1) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards applicable | |
17 | 17 | to motorcycles in 49 C.F.R. Part 571 for a vehicle that has at least | |
18 | 18 | three wheels in contact with the ground; or | |
19 | 19 | (2) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 500 (49 | |
20 | 20 | C.F.R. Section 571.500) for low-speed vehicles. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
