77 relating to the types of vehicles regulated as neighborhood
88 electric vehicles.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 551.301, Transportation Code, is amended
1111 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 551.301. DEFINITION. In this subchapter,
1313 "neighborhood electric vehicle" means an electric [a] vehicle that
1414 can attain a maximum speed of 35 miles per hour on a paved level
1515 surface and otherwise complies with:
1616 (1) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards applicable
1717 to motorcycles in 49 C.F.R. Part 571 for a vehicle that has at least
1818 three wheels in contact with the ground; or
1919 (2) Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 500 (49
2020 C.F.R. Section 571.500) for low-speed vehicles.
2121 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
