510 AN ACT
611 relating to the timely filing of reports of political contributions
712 and expenditures; increasing a criminal penalty.
813 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
914 SECTION 1. Section 254.041, Election Code, is amended by
1015 amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as
1116 follows:
1217 (b) Except as provided by Subsections (b-1) and
1318 [Subsection] (c), an offense under this section is a Class C
1419 misdemeanor.
1520 (b-1) A violation of Subsection (a)(1) is a Class B
1621 misdemeanor if it is shown on the trial of the offense that the
1722 person knowingly failed to file three or more consecutive reports
1823 under this chapter on time.
1924 SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to
2025 a report required to be filed under Chapter 254, Election Code, on
2126 or after the effective date of this Act. A report required to be
2227 filed before the effective date of this Act is subject to the law in
2328 effect at the time the report was filed, and the former law is
2429 continued in effect for that purpose.
2530 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
