95 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
106 AN ACT
117 relating to the authority of certain local governmental entities to
128 enter into an agreement to create a mutual aid law enforcement task
139 force.
1410 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1511 SECTION 1. Section 362.002(b), Local Government Code, is
1612 amended to read as follows:
1713 (b) A county, municipality, or joint airport may, by
1814 resolution or order of its governing body, enter into an agreement
1915 with a [neighboring] municipality, joint airport, or [contiguous]
2016 county to form a mutual aid law enforcement task force to cooperate
2117 in criminal investigations and law enforcement. Peace officers
2218 employed by counties, municipalities, or joint airports covered by
2319 the agreement have only the additional investigative authority
2420 throughout the region as set forth in the agreement. The agreement
2521 must provide for the compensation of peace officers involved in the
2622 activities of the task force.
2723 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2824 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2925 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3026 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3127 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
