14 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

15 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 362.002(b), Local Government Code, is |
---|
16 | 12 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
17 | 13 | | (b) A county, municipality, or joint airport may, by |
---|
18 | 14 | | resolution or order of its governing body, enter into an agreement |
---|
19 | 15 | | with a [neighboring] municipality, joint airport, or [contiguous] |
---|
20 | 16 | | county to form a mutual aid law enforcement task force to cooperate |
---|
21 | 17 | | in criminal investigations and law enforcement. Peace officers |
---|
22 | 18 | | employed by counties, municipalities, or joint airports covered by |
---|
23 | 19 | | the agreement have only the additional investigative authority |
---|
24 | 20 | | throughout the region as set forth in the agreement. The agreement |
---|
25 | 21 | | must provide for the compensation of peace officers involved in the |
---|
26 | 22 | | activities of the task force. |
---|
27 | 23 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
28 | 24 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
29 | 25 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
30 | 26 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
31 | 27 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
