9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 132, Education Code, is | |
11 | 11 | amended by adding Section 132.007 to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | Sec. 132.007. COSMETOLOGY TRAINING PROGRAM; PRACTICAL | |
13 | 13 | EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS. (a) A public junior college or career | |
14 | 14 | school or college may administer any practical examination required | |
15 | 15 | by law for the practice of cosmetology. | |
16 | 16 | (b) Notwithstanding any other provision in the law, any | |
17 | 17 | person sitting for a professional exam for the practice of | |
18 | 18 | cosmetology must have completed a minimum of 1,000 hours of | |
19 | 19 | instruction, including a minimum of 150 hours of instruction in | |
20 | 20 | sanitation and safety, in a beauty culture course or in a vocational | |
21 | 21 | cosmetology program in a public school, including a junior college | |
22 | 22 | or career school or college. | |
23 | 23 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
