15 | 17 | | DISTRICT. (a) The commission may award a grant to an independent |
---|
16 | 18 | | school district under this chapter if the district has entered into |
---|
17 | 19 | | a partnership with a public junior college, public technical |
---|
18 | 20 | | institute, or public state college for the purpose of: |
---|
19 | 21 | | (1) promoting career and technical education to the |
---|
20 | 22 | | district's students; or |
---|
21 | 23 | | (2) offering dual credit courses to the district's |
---|
22 | 24 | | students. |
---|
23 | 25 | | (b) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), an independent school |
---|
24 | 26 | | district located in a rural area of this state in which no public |
---|
25 | 27 | | junior college, public technical institute, or public state college |
---|
26 | 28 | | is located in close geographic proximity to the district may be |
---|
27 | 29 | | awarded a grant under this chapter to provide career and technical |
---|
28 | 30 | | education courses or programs to students in the district in |
---|
29 | 31 | | partnership with a local manufacturing facility in the area. The |
---|
30 | 32 | | commission shall adopt rules for the administration of this |
---|
31 | 33 | | subsection. |
---|
37 | 39 | | jurisdiction over workforce development or higher education a |
---|
38 | 40 | | report regarding the grant activities and grant recipients under |
---|
39 | 41 | | this chapter, including the results and outcomes of grants awarded |
---|
40 | 42 | | under this chapter. |
---|
41 | 43 | | (b) The report must: |
---|
42 | 44 | | (1) identify high-demand occupations in this state and |
---|
43 | 45 | | evaluate how grants awarded under this chapter have been used to |
---|
44 | 46 | | support courses or programs that prepare students for employment in |
---|
45 | 47 | | those occupations; and |
---|
46 | 48 | | (2) include the following data for the most recent |
---|
47 | 49 | | two-year period for which the information is available, |
---|
48 | 50 | | disaggregated by appropriate region as determined by the |
---|
49 | 51 | | commission: |
---|
50 | 52 | | (A) the number of students receiving career and |
---|
51 | 53 | | technical education funded by grants awarded under this chapter; |
---|
52 | 54 | | (B) the number of students attaining a |
---|
53 | 55 | | certificate, a degree, or an industry certification or other |
---|
54 | 56 | | workforce credential as a result of receiving career and technical |
---|
55 | 57 | | education funded by grants awarded under this chapter; |
---|
56 | 58 | | (C) the number of students entering the workforce |
---|
57 | 59 | | who received career and technical education funded by grants |
---|
58 | 60 | | awarded under this chapter; and |
---|
59 | 61 | | (D) any losses or gains in manufacturing jobs and |
---|
60 | 62 | | the effect of those losses or gains on workforce education needs. |
---|
