55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the provision of educational materials regarding
88 disease prevention during a disaster.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 418, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 418.1861 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 418.1861. DISEASE PREVENTION INFORMATION IN
1313 DISASTERS. (a) In this section, "department" means the Department
1414 of State Health Services.
1515 (b) The department shall develop and implement a disease
1616 prevention information system for dissemination of immunization
1717 information during a disaster.
1818 (c) During a declared state of disaster or local state of
1919 disaster, the department shall ensure that educational materials
2020 regarding immunizations are available to local health authorities
2121 in this state for distribution to the following:
2222 (1) schools;
2323 (2) child-care facilities as defined by Section
2424 42.002, Human Resources Code; and
2525 (3) community centers offering youth services and
2626 programs.
2727 (d) The educational materials under Subsection (c) must
2828 include:
2929 (1) the most recent immunization schedules by age as
3030 recommended by the federal Centers for Disease Control and
3131 Prevention; and
3232 (2) locations, if any, of local providers offering
3333 immunizations.
3434 SECTION 2. As soon as practicable, but not later than August
3535 31, 2020, the Department of State Health Services shall implement
3636 the disease prevention information system as required by Section
3737 418.1861, Government Code, as added by this Act.
3838 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
