11 | 11 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
12 | 12 | SECTION 1. Section 42.152, Education Code, is amended by | |
13 | 13 | adding Subsections (c-3) and (c-4) to read as follows: | |
14 | 14 | (c-3) Notwithstanding Subsection (c), funds allocated under | |
15 | 15 | this section may be used to: | |
16 | 16 | (1) provide child-care services or assistance with | |
17 | 17 | child-care expenses for students at risk of dropping out of school, | |
18 | 18 | as described by Section 29.081(d)(5); or | |
19 | 19 | (2) pay the costs associated with services provided | |
20 | 20 | through a life skills program in accordance with Sections | |
21 | 21 | 29.085(b)(1) and (3)-(7). | |
22 | 22 | (c-4) Not later than January 1, 2020, the commissioner shall | |
23 | 23 | adopt rules requiring the Public Education Information Management | |
24 | 24 | System (PEIMS) to include pregnancy as a reason a student withdraws | |
25 | 25 | from or otherwise no longer attends public school. | |
26 | 26 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
