49 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
510 AN ACT
611 relating to the number of school marshals that may be appointed to
712 serve on a public school campus or at a private school.
813 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
914 SECTION 1. Section 37.0811(a), Education Code, is amended
1015 to read as follows:
1116 (a) The board of trustees of a school district or the
1217 governing body of an open-enrollment charter school may appoint one
1318 or more school marshals for each campus [not more than the greater
1419 of:
1520 [(1) one school marshal per 200 students in average
1621 daily attendance per campus; or
1722 [(2) for each campus, one school marshal per building of
1823 the campus at which students regularly receive classroom
1924 instruction].
2025 SECTION 2. Section 37.0813(a), Education Code, is amended
2126 to read as follows:
2227 (a) The governing body of a private school may appoint one
2328 or more school marshals [not more than the greater of:
2429 [(1) one school marshal per 200 students enrolled in
2530 the school; or
2631 [(2) one school marshal per building of the school at
2732 which students regularly receive classroom instruction].
2833 SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
2934 school year.
3035 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3136 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3237 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3338 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3439 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
