55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the annual salary paid to judges of county courts at law
88 in Travis County.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 25.2292, Government Code, is amended by
1111 amending Subsection (f) and adding Subsection (f-1) to read as
1212 follows:
1313 (f) The judge of a county court at law shall be paid an
1414 annual salary in an amount [that is at least] equal to an amount
1515 that is [the salary paid district judges from the general revenue
1616 fund of the state, but not more than] $1,000 less than the annual
1717 salary, including supplements, received by district judges in the
1818 county. For purposes of determining the annual salary of a judge of
1919 a county court at law under this section, the total annual salary
2020 received by a district judge in the county does not include
2121 longevity pay provided under Section 659.0445 or compensation paid
2222 to the presiding criminal judge of Travis County under Section
2323 75.016.
2424 (f-1) The judge of a county court at law who receives a
2525 salary under this section is entitled to longevity pay from the
2626 county if the judge has completed four years of service as an active
2727 judge, as defined by Section 74.041, in Travis County for which
2828 credit is established in the Texas County and District Retirement
2929 System. Longevity pay paid under this subsection is not included as
3030 part of the judge's annual salary for purposes of the salary
3131 limitations provided by Subsection (f). The amount of longevity
3232 pay paid to a judge under this subsection must be equal to the
3333 greater of:
3434 (1) the amount of longevity pay paid to a judge of a
3535 district court in the county who has comparable years of service; or
3636 (2) the amount of longevity pay paid to an employee of
3737 the county who has comparable years of service.
3838 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3939 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
4040 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
4141 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
4242 Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
