| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 25.2292, Government Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amending Subsection (f) and adding Subsection (f-1) to read as |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (f) The judge of a county court at law shall be paid an |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | annual salary in an amount [that is at least] equal to an amount |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | that is [the salary paid district judges from the general revenue |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | fund of the state, but not more than] $1,000 less than the annual |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | salary, including supplements, received by district judges in the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | county. For purposes of determining the annual salary of a judge of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a county court at law under this section, the total annual salary |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | received by a district judge in the county does not include |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | longevity pay provided under Section 659.0445 or compensation paid |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to the presiding criminal judge of Travis County under Section |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | 75.016. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (f-1) The judge of a county court at law who receives a |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | salary under this section is entitled to longevity pay from the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | county if the judge has completed four years of service as an active |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | judge, as defined by Section 74.041, in Travis County for which |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | credit is established in the Texas County and District Retirement |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | System. Longevity pay paid under this subsection is not included as |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | part of the judge's annual salary for purposes of the salary |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | limitations provided by Subsection (f). The amount of longevity |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | pay paid to a judge under this subsection must be equal to the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | greater of: |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (1) the amount of longevity pay paid to a judge of a |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | district court in the county who has comparable years of service; or |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (2) the amount of longevity pay paid to an employee of |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | the county who has comparable years of service. |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
