7 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 1053, Special District |
---|
9 | 11 | | Local Laws Code, is amended by adding Section 1053.113 to read as |
---|
10 | 12 | | follows: |
---|
11 | 13 | | Sec. 1053.113. EMPLOYMENT OF DISTRICT PEACE OFFICERS. |
---|
12 | 14 | | (a) The board may employ and commission peace officers for the |
---|
13 | 15 | | district. |
---|
14 | 16 | | (b) The jurisdiction of a peace officer commissioned under |
---|
15 | 17 | | this section includes the property owned or controlled by the |
---|
16 | 18 | | district. |
---|
17 | 19 | | (c) In a district peace officer's jurisdiction, the peace |
---|
18 | 20 | | officer has the authority granted by Chapter 14, Code of Criminal |
---|
19 | 21 | | Procedure. |
---|
20 | 22 | | SECTION 2. Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, is |
---|
21 | 23 | | amended to read as follows: |

22 | 24 | | Art. 2.12. WHO ARE PEACE OFFICERS. The following are peace |

24 | 26 | | (1) sheriffs, their deputies, and those reserve |

125 | 127 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
126 | 128 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
127 | 129 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
128 | 130 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
129 | 131 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
