76 relating to eligibility for service on the board of directors of an
87 appraisal district.
98 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
109 SECTION 1. Section 6.03(a), Tax Code, is amended to read as
1110 follows:
1211 (a) The appraisal district is governed by a board of
1312 directors. Five directors are appointed by the taxing units that
1413 participate in the district as provided by this section. If the
1514 county assessor-collector is not appointed to the board, the county
1615 assessor-collector serves as a nonvoting director. The county
1716 assessor-collector is ineligible to serve if the board enters into
1817 a contract under Section 6.05(b) or if the commissioners court of
1918 the county enters into a contract under Section 6.24(b). To be
2019 eligible to serve on the board of directors, an individual other
2120 than a county assessor-collector serving as a nonvoting director
2221 must:
2322 (1) be a resident of the district;
2423 (2) [and must] have resided in the district for at
2524 least two years immediately preceding the date the individual takes
2625 office; and
2726 (3) be an elected member of the governing body of a
2827 taxing unit entitled to vote on the appointment of the district's
2928 board members under this section. [An individual who is otherwise
3029 eligible to serve on the board is not ineligible because of
3130 membership on the governing body of a taxing unit. An employee of a
3231 taxing unit that participates in the district is not eligible to
3332 serve on the board unless the individual is also a member of the
3433 governing body or an elected official of a taxing unit that
3534 participates in the district.]
3635 SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act does not
3736 affect the right of a person serving on the board of directors of an
3837 appraisal district on the effective date of this Act to complete the
3938 person's term on the board.
4039 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
