68 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
79 SECTION 1. Section 122.001, Civil Practice and Remedies
810 Code, is amended to read as follows:
911 Sec. 122.001. PROTECTION OF JURORS' EMPLOYMENT; JUROR'S
1012 RIGHT TO REEMPLOYMENT; NOTICE OF INTENT TO RETURN. (a) An [A
1113 private] employer may not discharge, threaten to discharge,
1214 intimidate, or coerce any [terminate the employment of a] permanent
1315 employee because the employee serves as a juror, or for the
1416 employee's attendance or scheduled attendance in connection with
1517 the service, in any court in the United States.
1618 (b) An employee who is discharged, threatened with
1719 discharge, intimidated, or coerced [whose employment is
1820 terminated] in violation of this section is entitled to return to
1921 the same employment that the employee held when summoned for jury
2022 service if the employee, as soon as practical after release from
2123 jury service, gives the employer actual notice that the employee
2224 intends to return.
2325 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
