55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to providing certain discharged or released inmates with
88 documentation to assist in obtaining employment.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 501, Government Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 501.0155 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 501.0155. PROVIDING DISCHARGED OR RELEASED INMATE WITH
1313 DOCUMENTATION FOR EMPLOYMENT. When an inmate is discharged or
1414 released on parole, mandatory supervision, or conditional pardon
1515 and the intended residence designated by the inmate is in this
1616 state, the department shall provide the inmate with relevant
1717 documentation to assist the inmate in obtaining post-release
1818 employment, including:
1919 (1) as applicable:
2020 (A) the copy of the inmate's job training record
2121 described by Section 497.094;
2222 (B) the copy of the inmate's work record
2323 described by Section 497.095; and
2424 (C) the personal identification certificate
2525 requested to be issued under Section 501.0165;
2626 (2) a certified copy of the inmate's birth
2727 certificate;
2828 (3) the inmate's social security card or a replacement
2929 social security card;
3030 (4) a resume that includes any trade learned by the
3131 inmate and the inmate's proficiency at that trade; and
3232 (5) documentation that the inmate has completed a
3333 practice job interview.
3434 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
