| 9 | 8 | SECTION 1. Section 34.008, Health and Safety Code, is | |
| 10 | 9 | amended by adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: | |
| 11 | 10 | (c-1) Not later than the 30th business day after receiving a | |
| 12 | 11 | request from the department for records regarding a | |
| 13 | 12 | pregnancy-related death for a specific patient, a hospital, | |
| 14 | 13 | birthing center, or other custodian of the records shall submit the | |
| 15 | 14 | records to the department. A request made under this subsection to | |
| 16 | 15 | a hospital or birthing center must be limited to a patient's medical | |
| 17 | 16 | records. | |
| 18 | 17 | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
