9 | 9 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 28.002, Education Code, is amended by | |
11 | 11 | adding Subsection (z) to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (z) The State Board of Education by rule shall require each | |
13 | 13 | school district to incorporate instruction in digital citizenship | |
14 | 14 | into the district's curriculum. In this subsection, "digital | |
15 | 15 | citizenship" means the standards of appropriate, responsible, and | |
16 | 16 | healthy online behavior, including the ability to access, analyze, | |
17 | 17 | evaluate, create, and act on all forms of digital communication. | |
18 | 18 | SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 | |
19 | 19 | school year. | |
20 | 20 | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | |
21 | 21 | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | |
22 | 22 | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | |
23 | 23 | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | |
24 | 24 | Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
