8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Sections 61.538(a) and (c), Education Code, are |
---|
10 | 10 | | amended to read as follows: |
---|
11 | 11 | | (a) A physician may receive repayment assistance under this |
---|
12 | 12 | | subchapter in the amount determined by board rule, not to exceed the |
---|
13 | 13 | | following amounts for each year for which the physician establishes |
---|
14 | 14 | | eligibility for the assistance: |
---|
15 | 15 | | (1) for the first year, $30,000 [$25,000]; |
---|
16 | 16 | | (2) for the second year, $40,000 [$35,000]; |
---|
17 | 17 | | (3) for the third year, $50,000 [$45,000]; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | (4) for the fourth year, $60,000 [$55,000]. |
---|
19 | 19 | | (c) The total amount of repayment assistance made under this |
---|
20 | 20 | | subchapter to an individual physician may not exceed $180,000 |
---|
21 | 21 | | [$160,000]. |
---|
22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section |
---|
23 | 23 | | 61.538, Education Code, applies only to a person who first |
---|
24 | 24 | | establishes eligibility for loan repayment assistance under |
---|
25 | 25 | | Subchapter J, Chapter 61, Education Code, as amended by this Act, on |
---|
26 | 26 | | the basis of an application submitted on or after September 1, 2019. |
---|
27 | 27 | | A person who first establishes eligibility on the basis of an |
---|
28 | 28 | | application submitted before September 1, 2019, is governed by the |
---|
29 | 29 | | law in effect on the date the application was submitted, and the |
---|
30 | 30 | | former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
---|
31 | 31 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
