55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The valiant military service of Drew Dennis Dix is
77 being saluted as part of the 2019 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend
88 in Gainesville; and
99 WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor
1010 Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of
1111 individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's
1212 highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join
1313 together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal
1414 recipients to the city for a special series of events; and
1515 WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Dix served as a unit advisor for the
1616 United States Army, 5th Special Forces Division in Vietnam; in the
1717 wake of a brutal attack on the city of Chau Phu, he organized
1818 multiple relief forces, exposing himself to heavy fire and
1919 repeatedly risking his own life to save trapped civilians within
2020 the city; rather than take cover during the attack, he charged
2121 directly at buildings controlled by hostile forces, dispatching
2222 assailants and capturing many enemy prisoners of war, including a
2323 high-ranking Vietcong official; and
2424 WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of
2525 duty, Drew Dix fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States
2626 armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a grateful
2727 nation; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
2929 hereby pay tribute to Drew Dennis Dix on the occasion of the 2019
3030 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend in Gainesville and commend him for
3131 his exemplary service in the defense of our nation; and, be it
3232 further
3333 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3434 prepared for Mr. Dix as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3535 House of Representatives and Senate.
