| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The valiant military service of Britt K. Slabinski |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | is being saluted as part of the 2019 Medal of Honor Host City |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Weekend in Gainesville; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | recipients to the city for a special series of events; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A senior chief with the Naval Special Warfare |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Development Group, Mr. Slabinski received the Medal of Honor for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | his actions on March 4, 2002, while assigned to a joint task force |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | during the war in Afghanistan; Mr. Slabinski was leading a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | reconnaissance mission in the mountains when the insertion |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | helicopter was damaged by enemy fire, causing a member of the team |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | to be ejected from the aircraft; Mr. Slabinski fearlessly launched |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | an assault to rescue the teammate; exposed to attack from three |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | directions, he and his team engaged the enemy in a close-quarters |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | firefight; Mr. Slabinski carried a wounded teammate across |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | difficult terrain while drawing fire from the enemy and continued |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the fight until the location had been secured and the team was |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | extracted; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | duty, Britt Slabinski fulfilled the highest ideals of the United |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | grateful nation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | hereby pay tribute to Britt K. Slabinski on the occasion of the 2019 |

| 34 | 34 | | Medal of Honor Host City Weekend in Gainesville and commend him for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | his exemplary service in the defense of our nation; and, be it |
