55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The valiant military service of Britt K. Slabinski
77 is being saluted as part of the 2019 Medal of Honor Host City
88 Weekend in Gainesville; and
99 WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor
1010 Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of
1111 individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's
1212 highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join
1313 together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal
1414 recipients to the city for a special series of events; and
1515 WHEREAS, A senior chief with the Naval Special Warfare
1616 Development Group, Mr. Slabinski received the Medal of Honor for
1717 his actions on March 4, 2002, while assigned to a joint task force
1818 during the war in Afghanistan; Mr. Slabinski was leading a
1919 reconnaissance mission in the mountains when the insertion
2020 helicopter was damaged by enemy fire, causing a member of the team
2121 to be ejected from the aircraft; Mr. Slabinski fearlessly launched
2222 an assault to rescue the teammate; exposed to attack from three
2323 directions, he and his team engaged the enemy in a close-quarters
2424 firefight; Mr. Slabinski carried a wounded teammate across
2525 difficult terrain while drawing fire from the enemy and continued
2626 the fight until the location had been secured and the team was
2727 extracted; and
2828 WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of
2929 duty, Britt Slabinski fulfilled the highest ideals of the United
3030 States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a
3131 grateful nation; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
3333 hereby pay tribute to Britt K. Slabinski on the occasion of the 2019
3434 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend in Gainesville and commend him for
3535 his exemplary service in the defense of our nation; and, be it
3636 further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Mr. Slabinski as an expression of high regard by the
3939 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
