55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The valiant military service of Gary B. Beikirch is
77 being saluted as part of the 2019 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend
88 in Gainesville; and
99 WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor
1010 Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of
1111 individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's
1212 highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join
1313 together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal
1414 recipients to the city for a special series of events; and
1515 WHEREAS, Sergeant Beikirch, a veteran of the United States
1616 Army, served as a medical aidman with Company B of the 5th Special
1717 Forces Group during the Vietnam War; tasked with defending Camp Dak
1818 Seang from a harrowing assault, he braved a hail of enemy bullets to
1919 come to the aid of his injured comrades; despite being seriously
2020 wounded by fragments from an exploding mortar shell, he was able to
2121 carry an injured American officer to a medical aid station, before
2222 immediately returning to the line of fire to assist others,
2323 including a Vietnamese soldier who was barely clinging to life; and
2424 WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of
2525 duty, Gary B. Beikirch fulfilled the highest ideals of the United
2626 States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a
2727 grateful nation; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
2929 hereby pay tribute to Gary B. Beikirch on the occasion of the 2019
3030 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend in Gainesville and commend him for
3131 his exemplary service in the defense of our nation; and, be it
3232 further
3333 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3434 prepared for Mr. Beikirch as an expression of high regard by the
3535 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
