| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The valiant military service of James Allen Taylor |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | is being saluted as part of the 2019 Medal of Honor Host City |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Weekend in Gainesville; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | recipients to the city for a special series of events; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, During the Vietnam War, Captain Taylor was assigned |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | to Troop B of the United States Army's 1st Cavalry as an executive |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | officer; after a fortified position west of Que Son came under fire, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he witnessed an intense attack on an armored cavalry assault |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | vehicle, which left it in serious danger of exploding; at |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | tremendous risk to his own life, he rescued all of the wounded |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | crewmen just before their vehicle erupted into flames; Captain |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Taylor was wounded while returning to his own vehicle, but he |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | continued with his mission and successfully moved the medical |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | evacuation landing zone closer to the front lines; he ultimately |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | saved the lives of several more soldiers who were riding in another |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | stricken vehicle and was able to drive them safely to the new |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | evacuation site; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | duty, James Allen Taylor fulfilled the highest ideals of the United |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | grateful nation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | hereby pay tribute to James Allen Taylor on the occasion of the 2019 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Medal of Honor Host City Weekend in Gainesville and commend him for |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | his exemplary service in the defense of our nation; and, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | further |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 38 | 38 | | prepared for Mr. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
