| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The valiant military service of Ronald E. Rosser is |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | being saluted as part of the 2019 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | in Gainesville; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | recipients to the city for a special series of events; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A corporal in the U.S. Army 38th Infantry Regiment, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 2nd Infantry Division, Mr. Rosser received the Medal of Honor for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | his actions in Korea on January 12, 1952; while taking part in an |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | assault on heavily fortified enemy hill positions, he disregarded |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | hostile fire to charge the hill three times and dispatch at least 13 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | enemy combatants; as his platoon withdrew, he made several trips |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | across open terrain under enemy fire to help remove wounded men, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | despite his own injuries; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | duty, Ronald Rosser fulfilled the highest ideals of the United |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | grateful nation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | hereby pay tribute to Ronald E. Rosser on the occasion of the 2019 |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Medal of Honor Host City Weekend in Gainesville and commend him for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | his exemplary service in the defense of our nation; and, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | prepared for Mr. Rosser as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | House of Representatives and Senate. |
