55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The valiant military service of Robert R. Ingram is
77 being saluted as part of the 2019 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend
88 in Gainesville; and
99 WHEREAS, Established in 2001, Gainesville's Medal of Honor
1010 Host City Program acknowledges the heroism and sacrifice of
1111 individuals who have earned the Medal of Honor, the nation's
1212 highest military award for valor; each year, local citizens join
1313 together to fund travel costs and other expenses to bring medal
1414 recipients to the city for a special series of events; and
1515 WHEREAS, Petty Officer Ingram served in the United States
1616 Navy as a corpsman with Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st
1717 Marine Division during the Vietnam War; on March 28, 1966, his
1818 platoon was attacked by the North Vietnamese in Quang Ngai
1919 Province; without regard for his personal safety, he crawled across
2020 a fire-swept, bullet-spattered landscape to administer aid to the
2121 wounded and collect ammunition from the dead; he was shot four times
2222 that day, and despite being critically injured, he pushed, pulled,
2323 consoled, and doctored his marines, single-handedly saving many
2424 lives while risking his own; and
2525 WHEREAS, Demonstrating extraordinary courage in the line of
2626 duty, Robert Ingram fulfilled the highest ideals of the United
2727 States armed forces, and he has earned the lasting admiration of a
2828 grateful nation; now, therefore, be it
2929 RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas
3030 hereby pay tribute to Robert R. Ingram on the occasion of the 2019
3131 Medal of Honor Host City Weekend in Gainesville and commend him for
3232 his exemplary service in the defense of our nation; and, be it
3333 further
3434 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3535 prepared for Mr. Ingram as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3636 House of Representatives and Senate.
