55 A JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment requiring legislative
77 approval of the historical narrative for certain exhibits featured
88 at the Alamo or a museum owned or operated by the state.
99 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Article III, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1111 adding Section 68 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 68. (a) A state agency with jurisdiction or governance
1313 over the Alamo or a museum owned or operated by the state may not
1414 allow the Alamo or museum to feature an exhibit that has as its
1515 primary theme the history of the Alamo or this state unless the
1616 historical narrative for the exhibit is submitted in written form
1717 to the legislature and approved in a resolution adopted by a
1818 majority of the members of each house of the legislature.
1919 (b) The legislature by general law may define the featured
2020 exhibits that are subject to Subsection (a) of this section and the
2121 procedures for submission and legislative approval of the
2222 historical narrative for the exhibits.
2323 SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to
2424 the Texas Constitution:
2525 TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) This temporary provision applies
2626 to the constitutional amendment proposed by the 86th Legislature,
2727 Regular Session, 2019, requiring legislative approval of the
2828 historical narrative for certain exhibits featured at the Alamo or
2929 a museum owned or operated by the state.
3030 (b) Section 68, Article III, of this constitution takes
3131 effect January 1, 2020.
3232 (c) This temporary provision expires January 1, 2021.
3333 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
3434 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2019.
3535 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against the
3636 proposition: "The constitutional amendment requiring legislative
3737 approval of the historical narrative for certain exhibits featured
3838 at the Alamo or a museum owned or operated by the state."
