55 JOINT RESOLUTION
66 proposing a constitutional amendment abolishing daylight saving
77 time in Texas.
88 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Article XVI, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1010 adding Section 74 to read as follows:
1111 Sec. 74. The state, acting under the exemption provisions
1212 of Section 3(a), Uniform Time Act of 1966 (15 U.S.C. Section 260a
1313 (a)), is exempt from the provisions of that law that establish
1414 daylight saving time. The exemption provided by this section
1515 applies to both the portion of the state using central standard time
1616 as the official standard time and the portion of the state using
1717 mountain standard time as the official standard time.
1818 SECTION 2. The following temporary provision is added to
1919 the Texas Constitution:
2020 TEMPORARY PROVISION. (a) This temporary provision applies
2121 to the constitutional amendment proposed by the 86th Legislature,
2222 Regular Session, 2019, to abolish daylight saving time in Texas.
2323 (b) The constitutional amendment takes effect November 1,
2424 2020, to coincide with the end of daylight saving time for 2020.
2525 (c) This temporary provision takes effect on the adoption of
2626 the constitutional amendment by the voters and expires January 1,
2727 2021.
2828 SECTION 3. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
2929 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 5, 2019.
3030 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the
3131 proposition: "The constitutional amendment abolishing daylight
3232 saving time in Texas."
