11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102
22 WHEREAS, Alan Haynes of Tyler is being inducted into the
33 Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame at the 2019 Toyota
44 Bassmaster Texas Fest, taking place May 2-6 at Lake Fork; and
55 WHEREAS, Established in 1997, the Texas Freshwater Fishing
66 Hall of Fame is located at the Texas Parks and Wildlife
77 Department's Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens; the
88 hall of fame honors individuals and organizations that have made
99 a lasting contribution to freshwater fishing in the Lone Star
1010 State; and
1111 WHEREAS, A lifelong sportsman, Alan Haynes founded The
1212 Sportster Inc. fishing tackle and outdoor sports store in Tyler
1313 in the 1970s; as the company's president and chief executive
1414 officer, he demonstrated a forward-thinking and innovative
1515 approach to business that helped introduce new products to the
1616 region, and he offered educational opportunities for local
1717 anglers to learn from world-renowned experts; highly respected
1818 by his peers, he served as chair of the Nation's Best Sports
1919 fishing tackle buying committee, and he was an advisory board
2020 member for Fishing Tackle Retailer magazine; and
2121 WHEREAS, In addition to his professional successes,
2222 Mr. Haynes has devoted much of his time and energy to charities
2323 and government organizations that promote conservation and
2424 inspire youth to become the next generation of fishing and
2525 hunting enthusiasts; he cofounded the nonprofit Tyler Woods and
2626 Waters Club, known today as the East Texas Woods and Waters
2727 Foundation, which helps fund and promote outdoor-related
2828 activities; through the years, the organization has been central
2929 to the development of the Tyler Nature Center, the opening of
3030 public fishing in the Neches River, and the overall increased
3131 accessibility of recreational opportunities in East Texas; and
3232 WHEREAS, Mr. Haynes has served on a number of Texas Parks
3333 and Wildlife Department boards and committees, including the
3434 Freshwater Fishing Advisory Committee, the planning committee
3535 for the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center, and the Texas Parks
3636 and Wildlife Foundation Kids Fish Program; and
3737 WHEREAS, For more than 45 years, Alan Haynes has
3838 distinguished himself through his tireless efforts to promote
3939 and conserve the recreational fishing resources of the Lone Star
4040 State, and he is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now,
4141 therefore, be it
4242 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4343 Legislature, hereby congratulate Alan Haynes on his induction
4444 into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and extend to him
4545 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4747 prepared for Mr. Haynes as an expression of high regard by the
4848 Texas Senate.
