5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |

6 | 6 | | the passing of Joseph Merrel Crawford of Quitman on November 17, |

7 | 7 | | 2018, at the age of 94; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Joseph Angelo and Virgie Crawford, |
---|
9 | 9 | | Joseph Crawford was born on August 17, 1924, in the Dry Creek |
---|
10 | 10 | | community in Hunt County, and he grew up with the companionship |
---|
11 | 11 | | of eight siblings, Vera, Edna, Elsie, Ercy, Ovela, Emmitt, |
---|
12 | 12 | | Marlin, and Odess; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Coming of age during World War II, Mr. Crawford |
---|
14 | 14 | | served his country as an electrical specialist with the United |
---|
15 | 15 | | States Army Air Corps, working on B-17 bombers; he enjoyed a |
---|
16 | 16 | | civilian career as a tooling inspector at LTV and designed the |
---|
17 | 17 | | elevator mockup for the space shuttle before retiring in 1980; a |
---|
18 | 18 | | man of many talents, he also found success as a realtor, and he |
---|
19 | 19 | | was a self-taught welder and built trailers; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Crawford shared a rewarding marriage with his |
---|
21 | 21 | | wife, Ann Crawford, that spanned more than half a century; he |
---|
22 | 22 | | took great pride in his four children, Pamela, Joseph, Kenneth, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and Jerry, and with the passing years, he was further blessed |
---|
24 | 24 | | with seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and six |
---|
25 | 25 | | great-great-grandchildren; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Having lived in the Dallas area for many years, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Mr. Crawford settled in Quitman in 2002; he was a 32nd degree |
---|
28 | 28 | | Mason and a valued member of the First United Methodist Church in |
---|
29 | 29 | | Quitman; in his leisure time, he liked to play cards and go |
---|
30 | 30 | | hunting and fishing; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this |
---|
32 | 32 | | esteemed man's love and friendship will always remember him with |
---|
33 | 33 | | great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Joseph Merrel |
---|
36 | 36 | | Crawford and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his |
---|
37 | 37 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

39 | 39 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
